The Los Angeles Kings have always been one of the most inquiring organizations in all of sports. "The fastest game on ice" based in the light of Southern California, the idea seems too far-fetched to ever succeed. And yet, 38-years after the Kings opening season, the team with the seemingly oxymoronic existence has not only survived but has become one of the keystone franchises of the National Hockey League.
The Kings were the birth child of Canadian-born entrepreneur Jack Kent Cooke. Cooke, who had long dreamed of owning his own hockey team, already crazed the Los Angeles Lakers when began his fight to bring hockey to the City of Angels.
